Better-than-basic boots

I tried these on at our local outlet mall this weekend and liked them even more than I thought I would after just seeing them online. Between the almost-super-high heel and the nice pleating detail on the side, they had that little bit of oomph to make an otherwise really basic boot totally crush-worthy. If it weren't for the slightly narrow front and the resulting question of long-term comfort - not to mention the disapproving look from my husband at yet another pair of boots (hey, they're my favorite shoe! - and I don't actually have a brown heeled non-winter boot...) - I probably would have refused to go home without them. Which of course means I'm still daydreaming about them...

Boden's spring collection

I just discovered the other day (through one of my favorite websites - Pinterest) that Boden's new spring collection had come out - although not for Germany, only the US and UK sites. :( It's been a few seasons since I've purchased anything from them, but I am constantly flipping through their catalog and marking pages for new items that catch my eye with each review (I am rather devastated that I didn't snap up their gorgeous, full-length wool skirt for winter when I had the chance).

This season it appears they've injected a little bit of sex appeal into their offerings with photos of beautiful women in low-cut dresses, heavily-lined eyes and perfectly tousled hair - while still keeping things fresh, pretty and just a little bit preppy. These shoes are no exception: classic and go-with-anything, but with just enough peep-toe and heel height to make the average woman smolder. Not to mention Boden's signature - a bright, happy lining (I think 80% of why I'm coveting this bag are those wonderful polka dots inside!). I think it's going to be lovely spring, indeed.

I don't get it H&M. You hail from the land of Swedes, where woman are supposedly tall goddesses - meaning they must have feet to match. So why would you stop at size 41 with all your shoe offerings? Just because we tower over most women shouldn't mean we don't get to wear killer heels (and flats!) at your great prices. I would snap these up in a heartbeat, if only they came in my size. Perfect for a night out in Paris...

Okay, so perhaps I got a little ahead of myself already posting about summer shoes... but spring's not too far off, right? In addition to warming weather - if only slightly, here in Germany at least - this spring means that trip I've been dying to take to Paris is finally happening (HUGE thanks to the hubby for getting me tickets to see Florence + The Machine there for Christmas *squealing with delight!*). Which of course means all my shoes are just not good enough. Look at any Scott Schuman photo taken in Paris and the sky-high, impeccably crafted footwear is likely the first thing you'll notice (case in point). While these aren't quite the ubiquitous stilettos of the City of Light (I am realistic about what I can walk in, after all), they at least satisfy the stylish heel requirement of the locals. The fact that they're Clarks, and I imagine would be realistically comfortable, just seals the deal. Je t'aime, Paris...

Summer can't come soon enough

Not much has changed since my last post almost a month ago - the holidays were full of grey skies and rainy days (only one morning of snow, which had then melted by the afternoon). With this dreariness set to last for the next four to five months, I'm ready to go straight to summer. I usually love spring here, with its blooming flowers and greenery, but with three months of this weather already under our belt, I'm not sure I can hang in there for that many more. So I'm dreaming of a summer holiday already - I'm picturing beaches, bike rides and sea breezes. What better shoe to be wearing for that than some super-summery espadrilles in bright, ice-cream colors? I may need to buy these now just to wear around the apartment in attempt to fight the inevitable spring funk that's likely to hit early this year. Summer and sun - I'm waiting...

There is hope of some snow on the weekend, but I've been seeing that for weeks and have yet to see any of the fluffy white stuff. They are so much like the J.Crew ones I've been wanting for a couple years now, but at a fraction of the price. They look great, they feel great - and they were delivered right to my doorstep. What more could I ask for?

With all the 'slippers' (aka - the loafers that look like old men's slippers) making a big splash on the fashion scene lately, I must say I feel a little let down. Much like my feelings about UGGs, why would I want to get dressed up nice to go out and then put something that looks like you're padding around your living room on to leave the house? Believe me, I love a sleek flat as much as the next girl, but something about this style felt a little... lacking. That is, until I ran across these. Almost a cross between these smoking slippers and loafers, the rich suede, penny-holder detailing and sparkly gold glitter panel make these feel like so much more than a slipper and the perfect shoe for holiday soirées. Wonder if I can get my husband to pick me up a pair while he's in London this week... (doubtful)

The boot-lover in me is thrilled to be living somewhere now where boots are practically required footwear for nine months out of the year. I couldn't help but develop a bit of a crush when I saw these, with their sweater cuff and gradient color combination, and wish I could add them into my fall-winter boot rotation.

It's safe to say I'm going through a major shoe faze right now. I blame the constant disappointment at my lack of shoe size over here (my husband has now taken to laughing right along with the sales people's quizzical expression when I state my requested size in a shop) for pushing me to buy up all I can from the states. Case in point: after my disappointment about the Deichmann shoes (which I since learned was all for the best, as they're crap), I hopped onto one of my favorite sites and ordered these - for about the same price. Not only is the quality infinitely better, but the Shearling is the real deal and is frankly even nicer than the stuff inside my Ugg Broomes (at five times the price!), keeping my toes super toasty. I wish they had a little more support in the soles, but it's nothing a good insert can't fix. The perfect casual, cold-weather boot!

Crush-worthy Paris style tends to involve 4-inch stilettos that look more like deathtraps (hello - cobblestones?!) than footwear to legitimately walk around in. But these - these I can get behind. I really love how the red version appears so soft and muted on her blog, but the cool color contrast on the brown pair - not to mention the killer sale price and free international shipping offered on Endless - is tempting too.

I continue to be impressed with Clarks' European line-up more and more, and this season is no exception. Ever since the realization that I might not be stuck with their limited size 43 offerings, I've been daydreaming about which lovelies should make their way into my shoe closet next. I believe this beautiful biker style has been out for a little while, but I rediscovered it on a recent visit back to the site after receiving Clarks' 'buy two pairs and get 20% off coupon' in my email (score, right?!). When a shoe hits all the right notes - sex appeal (slender heel, back zip & bondage-like straps? check!), practicality (manageable heel height and lug sole? check!) and a reasonable price point (under €150 - plus the 20% off promotion - check!) - I say it's time to start ordering! Plus, they go perfectly with the gorgeous, studded Liebeskind bag I got for my birthday. I'm thinking these perfect-for-spring shoes would be their best partner in crime for 20% off...

Cougar boot review - 4-1/2 stars!

So it's been a little while since I received my first Endless shipment - and I must say, I'm just as smitten with both the service and the shoes as I was upon delivery. The boots arrived within three days of placing the order, with no additional fees or customs bothers upon receipt and the boots themselves were impeccable quality (a little scuffing on the front, but I can live with it considering I seem to have gotten the last pair of these particular boots on earth). I've worn them several times in the last week (above, with tights and slightly cuffed, as well as laced up tight with rolled skinny cords), and while my feet do get a little tired with the heel after several hours of trekking around town, they keep my feet toasty warm and looking much smaller than they really are.

Since this particular style seems to be gone from existence, I'm regretting that I didn't buy them in black too when I had the chance. On the plus side, I'm a total Cougar fan now and am keeping my eye on their latest offerings (although I am kind of loving their Pillow Boot - where can I buy??) and visiting their website for a little hit of vintage charm. Cougar Boots and Endless.com have found a forever fan with me!

Snow season

As the American North-East gets slammed with snowstorms and our temperatures continue to drop, I am already preparing myself for Germany's own snowy weather. It means Christmastime, bundling up, and most importantly - snow boots! Admittedly, I've abused my poor Ugg Broomes - and the beautiful, now-defunct Smithfields - by using them too much in the snow, so I'm determined this year to keep them nice by sticking purely to snow-intended boots while traipsing through actual slush this winter. Since my go-to snow boots started to get wet/cold around the front seam at my toes last winter, I feel it's time to get a new pair (who knew snow and salt wreaked such havoc on ones shoes?!). I love the slim, sleek design of these North Face ones, with their cute knitted cuff and non-bulky design (believe me, my 11/42s need all the help they can get!). The sleek lines also means no chunky lugs, which normally I consider necessary in the icy season, but apparently these shoes are so smart that they have 'Ice Pick™ temperature-sensitive snowflake lugs' that sound like they should keep me upright. So bring 'em on Santa, I swear I've been good!

After a gleaming personal affirmation from a fellow expat who just placed her first international order with Endless (free, two-day shipping from the states - incredible!), I couldn't contain myself any longer. I found these (but in brown) before too long and was sold on the waterproofing and guarantee of warmth down to a bone-chilling -11F, not to mention the fact that they're way cute. Upon realizing Cougar was a Canadian boot company and these particular ones received unanimously glowing reviews, I had to check out its incredibly charming website and was thoroughly impressed. Turns out all their boots are guaranteed waterproof, to hold up to certain temperatures and many are PVC-free, since "it has been linked to health and environmental concerns." What a great company. Aside from the vintage-style filming and music on their site, what appealed to me most was our shared feelings about winter footwear: "After all, it’s hard to feel fashionable if you can’t feel your toes."

Christmas comes early in Germany

What American doesn't lament over the Christmas items that inevitably start popping up in window displays the day after Halloween? Well here in Germany, there is no Halloween - so retail Christmas is already in full swing. At least living here, in the land of seasons and Christmas markets, I can get behind the months-long celebrating of my favorite holiday - mostly because I know that come January, there are many dreary, cold, holiday-less months ahead. When I saw this new holiday plaid version of the classic Bean Boot, I knew I was ready to get into the holiday spirit already. These look like they were made for sloshing around holiday markets in the snow!

Deichmann dilemma

If you've been reading my posts for the last few weeks, it's easy to see that I'm a little obsessed with fuzzy boots right now. There's just something about one's feet being cozy and warm in this chill that's setting in for the next seven to eight months. Topping my wish list for these boots includes a Clarks pair and an amazing pair from flip*flop - both of which are really pricey for something I'm honestly not in dire need of. So when I spied these lovely boots staring out from a Deichmann advert in our mailbox for nur €39.90(!!!), I ran into town immediately to try them on. While I was impressed with their comfort and construction - and of course that they actually had my size - there was one thing that kept me from snapping them up right then (well, besides that shoes really aren't in the budget just now, or so claims my husband): the big question mark of 'will they last'? Or would they end up like my equally inexpensive Minnetonka boots that tore at the seams after just one season of bad weather? Sure, even my most expensive, brand-name boots have taken this new-to-us inclement weather particularly hard, but could I at least get a couple solid seasons in with these before they too started to give up? For this price and with my size so readily available, I may just have to find out.

Update: Upon returning to buy these the following day, my size was already sold out. Lesson learned - buy it when I see it!

Not 100% sold on any of the short winter boots I've found thus far, I happened across these ones from flip*flop while checking on the newest offerings on Zalando. Somehow, they happen to be even more pricey than the Marc O'Polo pair I'm liking, but I know they'd be worth every penny. My first pair from flip*flop turned out way better than I anticipated and I get lots of comfortable, all-day wear out of them - weather permitting for the light grey suede, of course. Knowing this, I think they'd be perfect for some chic holiday trekking around a very stylish city. ;)

Split personality

I've been rather in love with short winter boots lately. Sure, it's always cozy to have knee-high boots for the cold, but every now and then it might be nice to give my calves a little breathing room from their November to April mummification. I especially love these, which give the option of wearing the faux-fur cuff down for a little flair or up for some casual warmth. Two looks means more bang for your buck, which I think is solid logic for buying any new pair of shoes. I'm also loving the idea of swapping out the laces for red or bright blue for another change. (See what I did there? Four different shoes for the price of one - what a deal! How could my husband not agree?)

I know I'm constantly claiming shoes to be perfect, but I really think this one is the winner I've been looking for. I'm so in love with this boot, I don't even know where to begin. Aside from the obvious - killer Clarks comfort and that super-cute knitted cuff - it checks off just about everything I've been wanting in a lace-up boot: NO side zipper (really, how lazy can you be? plus it ruins the aesthetics), a good neutral dark brown, and a sole stable enough to hold up to icy weather - not to mention sporting a cap-toe, which does wonders to visually confuse the reality of my enormous feet. So you see, this boot is in fact what I've been searching for - to no avail - for quite a while. Now if only Clarks would send me one of its lovely coupon codes...

Snuggly fall footwear

In previous try-on sessions with Clarks shoes, I've found that their typical end-of-the-line size (42, or in UK, 8) was a bit too snug and I'd resigned myself to the fact I could only shop amongst Clarks' very limited size 43 offerings. The other day in town though, I saw these lovely boots in a shop - while perusing the very separate 'size 42' section - and figured there was no harm in trying. And what do you know? They fit! Granted, I wasn't wearing socks and my big toe almost touched the front, but that's nothing some everyday wear wouldn't stretch out a bit. So while these are already sold out everywhere online, perhaps they're still at that shop, waiting on the shelf for me to come and take them home...

Birthday boots, x 2 (or well, 4..)

Yesterday, I was finally able to convince customs to release my final birthday shipment from my mom after I opened the big box to reveal a plethora of tissue paper and gift-wrapped packages (obviously not a box of narcotics or designer knock-offs for resale). Aside from all the other exciting contents I knew it contained - like Brown Sugar Cinnamon Pop-Tarts and rocket-shaped popsicle molds - it was these boots I was most anxious to get my hands on (that's right, it was a boot extravaganza this year for me!). I have to be honest, I wasn't entirely sure how fantastic they would be, considering the faux leather and incredibly discount price - but I was quite impressed after wearing them around the apartment. Sure, they don't move and crease as beautifully as the real deal, but they look designer and feel surprisingly comfortable. Here's hoping they make it around town without too much trouble for my feet, because I'm dying to wear them nearly every day!

First day of Autumn

With the official start of autumn weather this weekend (buckets of leaves on the ground and a definite chill in the air), I've already started rotating out my summer attire - shoes and all - for my cold-weather gear. It's not quite time to pull out the snow boots, but it's not too far off. I'll never forget our 'go and see' trip to Germany (nearly two years ago now - how time flies), when I realized that non-insulated boots in late September meant numb toes and that I was about to move to a much colder climate than I was used to. While I spend most of the year here in wool socks, there's something to be said for warm and cozy boots - even before that first snowfall. These are my current faves, especially with their subtle nod to Oktoberfest fashion, which kicked off this past weekend. I love that a decent heel is added to this otherwise casual and rugged boot, giving it just enough style to make them equally well-paired with skinny jeans as with a dress and tights. Bring on fall!

As much as I am getting a handle on how and where I can get shoes in my size, there always remains the utterly amazing ones that allude me. Case in point: Anthropologie. Every time I receive one of their catalogs, I practically hyperventilate with desire to have a pair of shoes featured there, alas, Anthropologie never carries my size. I've already had some words with their customer service people on this topic, but apparently one big-footed girl does not an entire customer base make. The incredible comeback boot

For those of you who have been following my blog for a while, this boot should look familiar. I was obsessed with it last year, when I was knee-deep in the motorcycle boot craze. After spying a beauty shot of it in my coveted September/Russia issue of J.Crew, fresh from the states, I've discovered I still want them something fierce. I love that it's got the toughness of a moto boot without it being overly clunky or just plain mannish-looking. I can see getting a lot of wear out of these and am set on making them mine (before they are gone again)!

These were another pair I stumbled upon in a shop the other day, and much like the boots, I unwittingly fell in love. While not as trendy as the super-high stacked ones all the rage right now, I adore their simplicity and classic, quality construction. They also fit perfectly when I tried them on, unlike the look-alikes on the same shelf that pinched and poked. It's always my good, classic shoes that pair well with everything that I most often reach for when heading out the door, so what better investment than a classic black loafer?

The Incredible Knock-Off Bootie

My jaw dropped when I saw these featured on Refinery29's '30 Fall Essentials to Check Off' fashion list (which I'm also well on my way on, with much of it luckily already in my closet). Not only are these dead-ringers for the beautiful, albeit crazy-expensive Rachel Comey boots I've been seeing all over the fashion blogs of late, but they're amazingly inexpensive (especially with AEO's labor day weekend sale of 40% off EVERYTHING!). Granted, they're faux-leather and I'm fairly certain won't be terribly comfortable, but reviewers are singing their praises. I'm sensing another one for the birthday fairy...

Perfection (in a boot)

So I was innocently out in town yesterday, picking up a few goodies for my friends that were bringing their new baby home, when I was (again - innocently) drawn to the window of a shoe shop in town by a huge new display of fall boots - my biggest footwear weakness. Knowing how difficult it is to find shoes I'd actually want in my size over here, I figured - why not? The size 42-43 wall was packed with new boots! True to form though, most were 'eh', at best. But then, I spied some rather basic-looking boots up top and realized one was the perfect, rich shade of brown. Hmm...then I tried them on. We're talking music from the heavens. Not only were they roomy enough for my big, funky-shaped feet, but they came in just perfectly at the ankle (nothing worse than a sleek boot with a baggy, crinkly ankle) and went out perfectly around my comparably slim calves, with just enough room to wear with some skinny pants. I can count on one hand the number of boots I've tried on in my whole life that wouldn't require the additional costly alteration of bringing in the calves. They are the Perfect Autumn Equestrian Boot. A quick online search showed me these look to be the only pair of these boots anywhere, meaning I'd better act quick if they are to be mine. It's taking all my willpower not to run out and snatch them up right now. Losing... willpower... quickly...

The Perfect Birthday

Three weeks to the big 3-2 and already I'm getting greedy. I've had my eye on several Frye boots over the years - the classic Melissa and most recently, the heeled Miranda Chelsea bootie - but this one takes the (birthday) cake. There's something about the simplicity with the just the subtle tab detailing that makes my heart race. Oh, and the beautiful chocolate-hued leather and that perfect, almost-cowboy boot heel... they're just gorgeous! I'm envisioning the perfect autumn birthday in these boots, a creamy fall sweater, a very fall-like jacket, new fall scents, some spiced cider, changing leaves and anything pumpkin - if only I could find those Guiness & Bailey's cupcakes from last year, it would be the perfect day.

So I hate to admit it, but I really love these shoes. Call me a shoe snob, but I have a hard time with shoes that aren't real leather. I know serious vegans are probably cringing at that statement, but in all practicality, doesn't leather just wear better? It softens and molds to ones individual foot shape, scuffs will easily buff out of the good stuff, and doesn't make your feet a sweaty, synthetically-captive mess. Still... I think this might be my favorite, looks-wise, of the bunch. The platform looks sturdy and comfortable - and perhaps synthetic is just what I need with our take-no-prisoners cobblestones and inclement weather. At $90, I wouldn't be devastated if they got scratched (but at $250, you'd bet I'd be crying).

While I'm a little apprehensive about the heel (>3"), I think the classic style, superior craftsmanship and inside platform of this beautiful shoe would more than make up for it. The price and shipment all the way from the states is also a little daunting (especially if they don't work out), but they're only marginally more expensive than the current front-runners from Geox, considering the exchange rate. So I spied these on the shelf at my local Gabor/Paul Green store and immediately fell in love. Upon asking the salesperson for my size, I got the inevitable questioning expression as she studied the shoe and took it over to her computer to confirm what she probably already knew. Ahh, yes. 41-1/2 was the largest they carried. I decided to give it a shot (I should've known better). I could tell they were a smidge too small immediately after zipping them up but my god, they were perfect otherwise - perfect height, perfect ankle opening, perfect distressing that wouldn't look instantly damaged from our rough, cobblestone walkways. Even though our big planned holiday later this year is looking unlikely in light of our recent kitchen appliance fail, I'm still optimistic that we will make it to Southeast Asia before too long. A totally new kind of vacation for us will require a whole new kind shoe for me: the utilitarian sneaker. Sure I've got some Keds, but that's not going to cut it for trekking through mucky jungles and protecting my feet from the numerous critters that could kill me with one bite (eeek!). Even if our holiday does get delayed, it's not as if there's not plenty of hiking here in Germany where these could be put to good use. I've been on the lookout for some more flat summer sandals - you know, for all that walking - and was thrilled when I discovered these via Kirsten over at Triple Max Tons. While you can buy the basic, one-color pairs, it's really this design-your-own pair that gets me ready to whip out the credit card. Design my own sandals and they come in my size?! The fact that they're only €65 and are handmade in Cyprus is just icing on the shoe cake. Considering I'm rather obsessed with cobalt this season, I'm thinking this rich blue with a natural colored thick band at the top would be most perfect for strolling along the Pacific, maybe the Med, on holiday.

I finally made the Birkenstocks I've been coveting mine - and it was no easy task. Found them in a store - none in my size. Found them at Zalando, put them in my cart - and between that and trying to convince my husband I needed them, they sold out. I finally tracked them down and ordered them right away, with only one showing in stock. Now that I've been wearing them around the house for a day, I'm hooked - and ready for more. I'm thinking the cheaper, easily-cleaned, faux patent pair for travel next.

I'd been obsessed with these since seeing them all over Barcelona last summer, and my interest was piqued yet again when I saw they on just about every other local in Amsterdam a few weeks back. After realizing they were being featured by US retailers for the stylish set - and at $120 for the leather ones, my goodness! Mine were €59! - I couldn't ignore the call to these sandals any longer. I think it's funny that a German sandal is seen so rarely in Germany, but is worn abundantly by stylish people in the rest of Europe. I suppose it's a bit like the Hollister and Abercrombie I see all the time over here and wonder - why? Hopefully the Germans will just see me as someone who loves the country she's in.

My obsession with Clarks continues. After picking out my favorites at clarks.de (you can only order three pairs at a time - what's up with that?!), I was delighted to find a whole Clarks store in Amsterdam where I could see and touch all the ones I'd only seen on my computer screen (of course, they didn't actually have the size I needed in anything I asked for). This pair was one that didn't really jump out at me on the site, but in person - so cute! The stitching pattern on the top is a surefire way to make my boats - otherwise known as feet - look a little less seaworthy. The oxford/sneak/wedge styling makes it different in a cool, rather Euro way. These might be winners!

Trifecta of perfection

I headed out for a day in town last week in some 'comfort' shoes that I planned to take on our upcoming trip to Amsterdam, thinking these would be good for long days on my feet. Boy, was I wrong. After a mere two hours of walking around, my feet were rubbed raw and sore. It's amazing how comfort shoes by my old CA standards don't even come close to what I need for my new car-less, European existence. I even had my husband meet me in town with my slipper-like Minnetonka's to ease my sensitive, aching feet so I could stop hobbling around like a grandma. While I waited for him, I stumbled across these Clarks (in my size!) at a local shop and found them so comfortable, I almost bought them on the spot just to ease my pain.

While I still love these almost-fashionable clogs (& have them waiting in my clarks.de shopping cart until they fit in the budget), I'm set on buying more real comfort shoes I can actually walk around in. Finding shoes that are cute, comfortable AND in my size seems the be the ever-elusive trifecta, but with a few pairs to my name, I know they're out there - and I WILL find you!

Admiring the boat shoes I hope to get when back in the states, I happened upon a very lovely collection of new shoes on the Sperry Top-Sider website, including these lovely yellow flats. I must say that I'm surprised at its lack of shoe sizes - namely mine. Are us bigger-footed ladies unworthy of having a 'Passion for the Sea'? On the road again

Keds has been touring around the United States and releasing shoes in honor of each stop. They've already made their way through universities in southern California, Texas, Georgia - coincidentally at the school my super-talented jewelry designer/ex-coworker/friend is studying at - and are headed up north. I can only assume that is where they'll release these very New England-looking styles, like the pseudo-duck boot and sneaker oxford. They're also partnering with local arts charities at each stop, which just makes it that much cooler.

I've got heavy boots and summer sandals that are up to the task of walking all day for a week straight, but little in-between. I've been on the lookout for boat shoes since I saw them on just about everyone here last summer and fall (those Germans do love classic American style - all the shop windows in town right now depict either Nantucket or the California coast!). As I do my research to place orders for my arrival in the states this summer, I'm finding reviewers saying the loafers and boat shoes I'm loving run narrow, which just won't work for me. I'm thinking once again it's time to venture into the men's department to find shoes that actually fit my man-feet (yes, I've considered binding my feet like the Chinese, but my threshold for pain is embarrassingly low).

My latest discovery for the boys are these Lands End Canvas - officially my new favorite brand! - men's boat shoes. I was thinking classic brown was the way to go, but these gorgeous orange ones might be calling my name. I look forward to placing my order for our July arrival!

Everyday sneaks

In an amazing stroke of luck, I seem to be on a roll with shoes in Germany! First, I find amazing flats available in my size (still debating, though). Then, I stumble upon a pair of desert boots nearly identical to the Clarks ones I've been coveting - but better AND cheaper! Now, I've found some prospects for comfy, casual sneaks. The only problem? Deciding which ones I like!

The leather ones are similar to what I see on most Europeans feet in place of say, Converse (which they have here, but cost WAY more than in the states), so I love their simplicity and the prospect of fitting in with the locals. On the flip side, I spied the other pair - in gorgeous red! - at the Geox shop and loved the old-school styling and bright, happy color. I'm leaning towards the red, so I guess I'd better get out and get my size before they're gone, per usual!

When I had a friend express her frustration about not being able to wear any pair of shoes sockless without getting blisters, I couldn't help but think of my Minnetonkas. I have two pairs of the Kilty Suede Moc and they are the coziest leather my toes have ever felt - never a blister or a so much as a red mark, despite the need to buy them a size smaller to accommodate for the stretch.

So to my dear friend searching for the ever-elusive cozy toes, I cross my fingers your teeny-tiny feet (yes, that's jealousy you hear) grow with your pregnant belly so you can fit into these awesome shoes for your feet - without socks. Zalando here in Germany carries some, but their selection is pathetic at best. Shoes.com ships overseas, but Zappos really has the best Minnetonka selection - via a helpful U.S. resident, of course.

As for me, I've got my eye on the Thunderbird version next, which brings to mind New England summer camps I never attended. It's never too late, right?

Once again, I've come home disappointed in what I could find for myself at shoe stores here (found one promising flat sandal, only to turn it over and see €180 - I think not). And once again, I've come home after wearing what used to be comfortable shoes - my beloved Tory Burch flats! - into town, only to peel them off my swollen, aching feet when I got home and see that every single toe was blistered. *sigh*

While the prospect of wearing my 'cute CA' shoes to an office job someday keeps them in my closet, I really must invest in shoes that can stand up to the task of housing my enormous, messed-up feet for a trek across town without leaving me in tears - or blisters. This is a tall order, but I'm hoping these semi-fashionable Danskos I'm coveting might fit the bill. I got an email the other day promoting new Converse styles and immediately fell in love with these. I love the light, more feminine style and the soft, sunny hue - can you think of a better summer shoe color than 'Lemonade'?! And considering my Chucks were destroyed in last summer's paintball outing, I think I need these as a replacement.

With a week of sunny days and (comparatively) warm temps in the forecast, I've got my eyes on some equally sunny shoes. Bring on the sun!

Hunter makes ballet flats!!

I about died when I saw a tiny picture of these in my April issue of Maxi magazine and immediately began to research their availability. This photo from the Australian OK! magazine made me even more excited - look at those sunny, cheer-you-up-in-the-rain colors! So far, I've found them on the Hunter website, but only in pink, black and white.

Now, I can admit that I own my fair share of shoes - one might call it a problem, I call it a healthy obsession - but these would actually be of great use. Spring rainy season is upon us and I've been searching for an option for the wet weather other than my knee-high Hunters. When the temperatures are high, the last thing I want it to do is stuff my sweaty feet into some rubber boots. The rain flat is the answer to summer storms and I'm on a mission to find the perfect pair. I think these might be them!

I'm always jealous when my friends come back from visiting in the states with tales of all the wonderful shopping they did, especially when that shopping involved shoes. One such new shoe purchase of my friend included the cutest pair of Crocs ballet flats (so far from those horrible gardening clog things!) - and I'm thrilled that, like UGGs, they've come around to offering some decent footwear that doesn't make one have feet resembling various types of animals. After a little shoe research, I quickly identified some favorites - like these. I love that they look like a grown-up version of the jelly sandals we wore in grade school, and even have a comfortable footbed. Sign me up - I'm a Crocs convert!
